Wood floors

Ivy & I started laying down wood flooring today.

We finished the office and got the guest room halfway done.

Half wall

In the dining room we created half walls that go up to the vigas. We notched the vigas and installed the tops using the windowsill material.

They slid right in there.

Cabinets

Marc Hempel and the crew from Northern Lights Woodworks installed the cabinets the other day. Here is the kitchen.

This is the master bathroom cabinet box.

Sills

One of the most beautiful things about a straw bale house is the wide windowsills.

We start with a 14" piece of kiln dried sugar pine like this one then we do a mushroom cut for each sill which hangs over the front.

Here is one in the office all stained and finished.

This is the longest sill. The picture window in the living room.

Meanwhile Ivy frames up the back splash for the tub. We will install cement board then tile on the deck and back splash.

Staining

Brian spent the day staining the woodwork and it really looks great. Here is the clear story looking from down below.

Ivy looks over Brian's work.

Brick floors

I started laying brick on the greenhouse floor. First we poured 4 inches of crusher fines (sand with small pebbles) in then we tamp it down then bring in a little more fines and lay the brick fine tuning as we go.

Ivy starts laying brick in the screened porch floor. He will try to finish before I finish the greenhouse but it won't happen.

By the end of the day I am 3/4 done. Should be finished by first break tomorrow morning.
